About Equest – Hooves for Heroes

Equest Hooves for Heroes leverages the power of equine activities and therapies (EAAT) to help warriors and military family members improve wellness through increased self-confidence, better socialization skills, heightened self-awareness, and greater capacity for emotional connection. There are three distinct components of the program designed to work together or as stand-alone interventions based on individual needs: therapeutic horsemanship, or basic skills training, both mounted and dismounted conducted in a group setting; equine-facilitated psychotherapy (EFP), or counseling conducted either individually or as families; hippotherapy, or physical therapy on horseback that includes an OT, PT, or Speech Pathologist.

Eligibility

All active duty service men and women, members of the Guard or Reserve, or honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and their immediate family members seeking better functioning and improved wellness are eligible to participate in the program free of charge.
