Vail Veterans Program is a nonprofit organization providing military injured and their families with innovative and transformational programs that build confidence and improve lives. Through rehabilitative sports and recreation activities, the Vail Veterans Program helps to rebuild confidence and provide a sense of freedom from catastrophic injuries including loss of multiple limbs, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, post-traumatic stress syndrome, and traumatic brain injuries.
At Vail Veterans Program they know there is a freedom in the mountains that can’t be found anywhere else. It invites us to abandon everyday boundaries and reconnect with our self-confidence and inner strength, which is the basis for everything they do. These services are provided free-of-charge to wounded warriors and their families, allowing for much-needed time away from the hospital and offering hope for the future.
Vail Veterans Program include a year round opportunities for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Programs that are coming up for summer are the Summer Family Program and the Golf In The Rockies.
The Summer Family Program is for wounded veterans and their families participate in outdoor activities including rock climbing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, ziplining, mountain biking, and fly-fishing.The Summer Family Program equips wounded veterans and their families with coping mechanisms for the immense challenges faced in transitioning into life after a severe service-related injury.
Through Golf In The Rockies, wounded veterans enjoy 5-days of an unforgettable golf experience. The Golf In The Rockies program encourages participants to bond with one another over a shared passion, leaving the program with lifelong friendships and a newly developed community of mutual support.
“This opportunity/program could not have come at a better time. As a matter of fact, I feel like it was a blessing. This past week was more than a life changer for me. The program gave me insight into how to react to challenges, situations and arguments. I now have the tools to make a difference within my life and the life of my family. I will no longer ponder on the “what ifs” and enclose my mind in the negativity of the events that have happened in my life. I will be a better husband, father and friend by giving more time to those that have always extended their hand to lift me up. The Veterans Path to Success Program at Johnson & Johnson’s Human Performance Institute really impacted my perception of my best self in a positive way.” Army Sgt. First Class (Ret.) Henry Escobedo
These are just a few of their programs offered. They also offer a special retreat just for caregivers, encouraging caregivers of wounded veterans to connect with others experiencing similar challenges. This provides the caregivers with sustainable tools to incorporate into their daily lives and offers them the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate in a safe and comfortable environment.
Vail Veterans Program, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson’s Human Performance Institute (HPI), offers VVP alumni a three-day training program focusing on performance psychology, exercise physiology, and nutrition. This training program assists wounded veterans in acknowledging their “old story,” while helping them to identify their “new story” for future success outside of the military.
