Saratoga WarHorse is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization assisting veterans who are suffering from invisible, psychological wounds by providing a confidential, peer-to-peer, action based, equine-assisted experience that initiates immediate and empowering changes.
Saratoga WarHorse offers veterans a three-day experience through an interactive connection process that has proven to be effective and invaluable for those struggling to adjust to life after military service. This experience brings together off-the-track thoroughbred horses and veterans, then they build trust through the nonverbal language of the horse. Once trust is formed between both animal and man, a unique and profound bond is established.
The personalized approach that Saratoga WarHorse provides each individual is a unique experience, helping the veteran to release stress. The “Connection Process” varies with each horse-to-veteran interaction, but through careful guidance by skilled instructors, the process remains predictable and dependable. Researchers have acknowledged a growing interest in the Saratoga WarHorse methodology and are currently trying to determine and understand why the Connection Process is so effective in reducing symptoms of depression and post-traumatic stress as well as suicidal thoughts.
Saratoga WarHorse creates a safe, longterm benefit for both veterans and off-the-track thoroughbreds. Veterans are given an effective alternative method for healing emotional and psychological wounds, while the horses are able to provide rewarding, meaningful work after their racing careers have ended.
This program is provided at no cost to the veterans. To find locations and classes, visit Saratoga WarHorse’s website at www.saratogawarhorse.com.
