“We would like to thank the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation Quality of Life grants program for providing funding to our organization! We’ve been awarded a grant, which will help give greater independence to individuals living with paralysis ~ we will be purchasing a new accessible paddle board!!! Check out wounded warrior Sarah having fun on a paddleboard with DSES.”
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra is a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the lives of children and adults with disabilities and their families by offering year-round outdoor sports and activities, creating inspiring challenges, providing expert instruction and adaptive equipment, rallying the community to comfortably accommodate people with disabilities. Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra is all volunteer operated and believe that the freedom and exhilaration of outdoor challenges changes lives.
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra offers adaptive equipment to fulfill everyone’s winter and summer outdoor dreams, such as gliding down a snow-covered mountainside, cruising on a cycle or skimming over a placid lake. Activities are customized to each individual; one-on-one or in a group. Their goal is to encourage everyone to be active year round!
In additional to their work with children and adults, Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra also operates a fully accessible, state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly facility located in Mammoth Lakes, California called The National Wounded Warrior Center. The center is adjacent to Cerro Coso Community College. Making this easily accessible to the community and our wounded warriors.
The National Wounded Warrior Center empowers wounded, ill and injured servicemen and women by facilitating their transition into fulfilling civilian lives through education, rehabilitation, health and wellness. The Center offers Wounded Warriors what they need to learn a new occupation, heal invisible and physical wounds and also how to thrive in their new life.
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra makes the outdoors accessible and affordable. “No one should be left behind simply because of a disability!”
