Mr. Hawkins is a Southern California native who has over 30 years of experience in the travel and tourism industry. Mr. Hawkins earned undergraduate degrees in Economics and Marketing, as well as an MBA, from Santa Clara University.
In 1991, Mr. Hawkins came to San Diego to “turn-around” a financially troubled ground transportation company in San Diego. The efforts to create a new company were successful and Cloud 9 Shuttle was born. In 2002, as a result of the 9/11terrorist attacks and the challenging California business climate, Cloud 9 was “re-invented” as a Franchise company offering franchises to individuals who wanted to own and operate their own transportation business.
In 2007 Mr. Hawkins successfully orchestrated the acquisition of Cloud 9 Shuttle by SuperShuttle International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Veolia International. The acquisition was a strategic fit for Cloud 9 as it connects the new Cloud 9 SuperShuttle with 33 other SuperShuttle operations around the nation and the world. In addition, it provides for national marketing, while keeping local marketing in place, as well as capital resources that allow for economies of scale, enable growth and enhance customer service.
Mr. Hawkins is an active member of the San Diego and Southern California business community. He is a past Chairman of the Southern California Leadership Council; the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce; the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau; the Corporate Finance Council; and San Diego’s Fleet Week.
