The Deployment Life Study – RAND

Description: Broadly, the Deployment Life Study is designed to address several policy questions. First, how are deployments associated with family well-being and overall functioning? Second, what family- and individual-level factors can account for both positive and negative adaptation to deployment (i.e., what constitutes family readiness)? And third, what policies and programs can DoD develop to help families navigate the stress associated with deployment?

The Reverse Boot Camp White Paper Empowering Veterans for Life after the Military

A Reverse Boot Camp is essential for the military transition to civilian life. This white paper describes how a structured process (“Reverse Boot Camp”) would enhance the wellness of our nation’s Veterans and reduce the suicide rate in the Veteran population. Further, it outlines the rationale for this effort and makes a compelling case for why it must begin now. Lastly, this paper describes how this effort is both a symbolic and substantive change to the current military approach utilized to transition military personnel from service.

WOUNDED VETERANS: REINTEGRATION THROUGH ADVENTURE-BASED EXPERIENCE; A NARRATIVE INQUIRY

This narrative inquiry explored the community reintegration experiences of ill, injured, and disabled U.S. servicemen and women that served in the global war on terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan since September 11, 2001. More specifically, the service member’s experiences and perspectives around engagement in adventure-based activities, the supportive communities that manifest around those activities, and the role or value of that experience in the reintegration process.
