Director of Opeterations/R4 Alliance
Bert Gillette is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and the Director of Operations for R4 Alliance. Raised in a military family, Bert grew up as an Army brat on various bases nationwide. His dad had a 20-year career as a MEDEVAC pilot and his mom worked as a registered nurse. His parents’ combined experience, and his love of the outdoors, influenced his eventual career choice of providing therapeutic recreation services to Our Military Family.
Bert received his B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation (TR) in 2002 from Central Missouri State University. Prior to helping to found R4 Alliance, Bert worked with the Military program of Higher Ground Sun Valley where he spent 6 years as part of an innovative team developing one of the nations’ premiere programs for Our Military Family. Bert is the founder of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association’s (ATRA) Military and VA treatment network, the recipient of the Pioneer Federal Credit Unions’ Community Pioneer award in 2013, and has presented on effective Therapeutic Recreation approaches at conferences across the nation. He is proud to see the amazing individuals and impactful organizations who have joined the R4 family and shared in the vision.
In his personal life, Bert enjoys: skiing, rafting, marital arts, kayaking, biking, climbing, camping, backpacking, canoeing, hiking, disc golf, Nordic skiing, and anything out of doors. Bert currently lives in Hailey, Idaho with his wife Kelli and their dog Winston.
