Mike Chesne joined the U.S. Army in 1985 as an Infantryman. He graduated from RANGER school in April 1990 and then attended Special Forces Assessment and Selection and the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1990-1991. He was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group and deployed throughout the Middle East between 1992 and 2001. Following the Events of 9/11 he was selected for and assigned to the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta where he deployed to combat in Iraq in support of OIF on nine separate tours and one tour in support of OEF in Afghanistan. He was wounded on several occasions and his operational career was effectively ended in 2005. He became an instructor for the Operator Training Course while recovering from his injuries. He was medically retired at the rank of Master Sergeant in 2010 while attending the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.
Mike graduated from Campbell University in 2007 with a BS in Applied Science. Now retired in Alexandria, Louisiana, Mike concentrates on “giving back” to his fellow Veterans by supporting the R4 Alliance, Higher Ground, Project Healing Waters and many local outdoor recreation groups in Louisiana.
In 2009, Mike was a participant in a fly-fishing program with Higher Ground, Sun Valley Adaptive Sports with his wife Stacy. The therapeutic effects of the camp changed his and his family’s lives forever. Mike is now the South Central Regional Coordinator for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, a member the Board of Directors for the HRB / HT program in Alaska, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the R4 Alliance and is constantly involved in getting Disabled Veterans “off of the couch” and into the outdoors through hunting and fishing outings.
